Leak Test Apparatus is a solid-state instrument designed for leakage testing of food, drug and other industrial chemical products. The instrument is used to evaluate the quality of packing processes in strips, blisters and sachets containing tablets, granulates and liquids.

The apparatus is also used to check whether the seals enclosing the product are perfectly intact. The unit contains a polycarbonate desiccator housing designed to sustain vacuum for a long period of time.

A compact vacuum pump is provided for creating a high vacuum level within a short period. Test samples are placed inside the polycarbonate desiccator housing, where the vacuum pump generates the required vacuum. The generated vacuum is held for a preset period and then released.

During the test, samples should retain their shape, indicating proper sealing. For additional leak detection, strips or bottles under test can be immersed in a colored dye solution, normally Methylene Blue. During venting of the desiccator, the dye can penetrate through any holes or leakage points and stain the contents of flexible packaging, helping identify defective seals.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

The test samples are placed inside the polycarbonate desiccator housing. A compact vacuum pump generates vacuum inside the desiccator and the generated vacuum is maintained for a preset period before being released.

The samples being tested should retain their shape during the vacuum test, indicating that the sealing is correct.

For dye penetration testing, strips or bottles are immersed in a colored dye solution, normally Methylene Blue. When the desiccator is vented, any holes or leakage points allow the dye to penetrate the package. The contents of flexible packaging may also become stained, helping identify leakage or sealing defects.
